Overview

Grand trek in Eastern Caucasus includes trekking from Kazbegi to Tusheti, so it covers three mountain regions – Kazbegi itself, Khevsureti, and Tusheti. The tour starts and ends in Tbilisi, but can be modified for those who are lending in Kutaisi, this will add two more days to the tour.

Grand trek in Eastern Caucasus is 13 days long and contains 8 days of trekking. It includes two trekking tours which we already were selling successfully – Juta – Roshka through Chaukhi pass and Atsunta pass trekking, from Shatili to Omalo.

The optimal group size is 4-12 persons. During the trek, horses are helping to carry luggage. Distance from Roshka to Shatili (50 km) group will cover by jeep.

We are working with the best guides, who know this route well, have years of experience, can solve any problem on the way, and are just great guides! So you will be in good hands in wild nature!

The trekking level is difficult. includes 3 nights in tents. Tourists need to have their own trekking gear. We can assist in renting tents and other gear if needed.

Guides will have cooking gear with them, but tourists are requested to assist the guide in cooking and camp preparations. We will discuss the type of meals with you before the tour, so if you are vegetarian, it is not a problem!

If you are an experienced trekker and love mountains, don’t miss this challenge!

At the end of the tour, the bonus is two relaxing days in Kakheti, where you can relax, eat delicious food and try the best Georgian wines.

The best time for a tour is from July to October.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Tbilisi

Arrival to Tbilisi. Meeting in the airport and transfer to the hotel. Short city tour and welcome dinner.

 

Day 2 – Tbilisi Kazbegi Juta

Our travel to the Caucasus mountains starts!
After breakfast travel to Kazbegi. On the way stop at Jinvali water reservoir view point. Visit Ananuri fortress, Gudauri view point and Cross pass. In Kazbegi we will drive to Gergeti trinity church and have short hike to Gveleti waterfall. Final destination today will be village Juta. We will sleep in Camping, and there we will have to hike.
In the evening enjoy Chaukhi view and dinner.

 

Day 3 Juta to Roshka trekking

First day of real trekking. We will start from Juta camping – 2300 m above the sea level. Climb Chaukhi pass 3300 m.. afterwards depending to Roshka village 2100m. On the way we will visit Abudelauri lakes.
This day we will hike 7-8 hours.

Day 4 Roshka – Shatili drive

Today will be light day. Easy short hike from Roshka to the main road, where we will meet our transport with luggage. Drive to Shatili. On the way stops to view Datvijvari pass 2676 m. Lebaiskari tower, Kistani former village. Soon we will arrive to Shatili. Settle in guesthouse and explore village.

Day 5 Shatili – Ardoti

After breakfast hike from Shatili to Ardoti. First we will hike down following river Argun until place called Anatori. It is near border to Chechnia. We will see kind of cemetery of Anatori and follow up river Andaki until we will approach historical village Mutso. Here we will make lunch break and explore abandoned village. Then we will continue way to Ardoti and prepare camp.
This day is easy but long hike.

Day 6 Atsunta camp

After breakfast and putting up camp, we will hike to bottom of Atsunta Pass. Our luggage will be carried by horses. We will walk 7 hours and make new camp at Altitude around 2000m.

 

Day 7 Atsunta pass

The most challenging day. Today we will traverse Atsunta Pass 3431 m. We will walk 7-8 hours to cover 10 km. Overnight in tents east from the pass.

 

Day 8 Dartlo

After breakfast and preparations we will walk down to village Dartlo in Tusheti. On the way we will see villages of Pirikita gorge – Girevi, Parsma and Chesho.
Finally relax in the guesthouse and dinner.
For additional fee is possible to drive from Girevi to Dartlo.

Day 9 Dartlo – Omalo

Trek from Dartlo to Omalo. In Omalo visit Keselo towers and relax in the hotel.

Day 10 Oreti lake

Trek from Omalo to Oreti lake and return to Omalo same hotel. Optionally possible to do horse riding for extra fee.

 

Day 11 Omalo – Telavi

Today we say goodbye to Caucasus mountains and travel to town Telavi. Road from Omalo to nearest village on the south side of Caucasus is only 72 km but takes 5 hours and only good jeeps can drive here. This drive is also adventure.
Afternoon visit winery, enjoy wine tasting and lunch. Evening walk in Telavi. Relax in the hotel.

 

Day 12 Kakheti tour Telavi – Signagi

Very relaxing day. Today we will explore Alazani valley, famous because of wine making. We will visit historical monuments and wineries.
First of all visit Ikalto monastery and Qvevri workshop. Afterwards continue to Gremi complex. Then visit one more wine cellar for tasting and Lunch. Arrival to town Signagi, enjoy dinner and beautiful views. Relax.

 

Day 13 farewell

Our tour is finished. After breakfast return to Tbilisi, drop off in the airport.
