Lomisa festival dates back to pre Christian period. This festival is popular in Aragvi and Ksani gorges. Before Christianity Lomisa used to be very important god in Mtiuleti province. Holy places of Lomisa were on the water dividing range between Ksani and Aragvi and in village Mleta. After Christianity entered the province, on the holy mountain of Lomisa was built st. George’s church and brought icon of st. George, which was called st. George of Lomisa. On festival to Mleta come many guests from East Georgia. Festival has many pagan rituals, like animal scarification. Festival takes place on seventh week after Easter.
