Mtskheta – the ancient capital of east Georgia, from IV century BC. After moving the political center to Tbilisi, Mtskheta remained the spiritual center of the country. Once more it became the political center – in X – IX centuries, while Tbilisi was still occupied by Arabs and known as Tbilisi emirate. Currently, it is a little town 20 km from Tbilisi. Here are prechristianity archaeological and Christianity architectural monuments, which UNESCO recognizes as world heritage sites. The trip covers the most important monuments in Mtskheta.

Jvari monastery A Masterpiece of Georgian Architecture – was built in the VI century on top of the hill, from where is a perfect view of the town of Mtskheta and its surroundings.

Bagineti – remains of the ancient district of the city, where are remains of the palace, temples, and roman bath, dated back to I BC – II AD centuries.

Svetitskhoveli cathedral XI century – the most respected holy place in Georgia, also a significant architectural monument of Georgia. Also is the burial place of Georgian kings and their offspring till modern times.

Samtavro monastery – built in the XI century. Here are the graves of the first Christian king and queen of Georgia.

For small groups, up to 6 persons is possible also to visit Bagineti archaeological site, with remains of the royal palace, thermal bath, and pagan temples.
